A lesson with Fergus

Today I have been practicing how to walk on a lead. This was my second go at this, and I remembered that if I walk nicely next to Mum and don't chew the lead, she says "heel" and I get a treat! How good is that! I wish we could practice this more often as I love treats!

A little bit later I had a lesson with Fergus. Fergus taught me that if Mum says "sit", we put our bottoms of the ground and get a treat, BUT, if Mum moves away a step and we keep our bottoms on the ground, she comes straight back and gives us another treat!! Fergus told me he really enjoyed teaching me this because normally he doesn't get a treat for doing things that are so easy!

A fair swap??

You will never guess what happened today. Two people (who at first I thought were really nice) came to meet me. Their names were Trevor and Joan and they brought me a great new toy, BUT........ they stole Aunty Milly! I don't think that was a very fair swap do you?

Hot Dogs

It has been really hot the last couple of days. It was 33C this afternoon and a HUGE drinking bowl appeared in the garden.

I thought I would cool off quicker if I climbed in.....

It was great fun, but the best bit was climbing all over Mum when I got out and making her all wet too. (I only did it to cool her down!)

Another new toy!

I just LOVE toys! Yesterday Debbie brought me a new pheasant toy from the Lincolnshire Show. It's nearly as big as me, but being the true gundog I am, I can retrieve it - no problem!

There is one problem though,  Aunty Milly quite likes it too and she keeps trying to steal it!

9 weeks old today

I celebrated being 9 weeks old by going into the village again. I have now been 4 times. I have met lots of people and seen loads of new things - trucks, vans, bicycles, motorbikes, children, prams, wheelchairs etc. Some of them (especially the children!) were quite noisy but nothing scared me. I can't wait until I've had my 2nd injection and then I'll be able to walk around the village instead of being carried - I am a Welshie after all and I want to get out there and do stuff!

Even though I've only been home just over a week I think Dave has already started my training. Whenever I am running towards him he says "Dougal come" then I get a huge fuss when I get to him. I think if I ever hear him say 'Dougal come" when I'm busy doing something else, I'll stop what I'm doing and run to him so I'll get another huge fuss (unless of course, what I am doing is more interesting!!)

I am only being fed 4 times a day (I do wish it was more!) I am desperate to get to my dish, but Debbie always holds it over my head and says "sit." I have to put my bottom on the floor so I can still see my dish, so I guess "sit" must mean put your bottom on the floor and you'll get your food quicker!

There's just so much to learn!

More firsts

Today I went for my first trip into our local village. I wasn't allowed on the ground as I have only had one injection so far. Debbie carried me into the Post Office and the Pet Shop. I'd have really liked to go into the butchers, but Debbie and I had to wait at the door while Dave went in on his own - the smells coming out were puppy heaven! Debbie said it took much longer than normal to do the shopping - that's because people kept stopping to talk to me, I made lots of new friends.

When we got home I was given my first bone. It was fabulous! I think I must be doing something wrong though, I chewed and licked it for ages, and it's still the same size. Duggie, Fergus, Max and Milly have eaten theirs!

My first visitor

I had my first visitor today. Aunty Sandra came to see me. She gave me lots of cuddles which I loved!

Welcome to my blog

Hello everyone. My name is Dougal, and I am a very young Welsh Springer Spaniel. I have recently moved to my new home in Lincolnshire and now live with Debbie and Dave (my new Mum and Dad), and Duggie, Fergus and Max (my new brothers) That's a lot of "D"'s!  I am going to learn to be a working gundog, but for now I am just settling in and finding my way around the house and garden.
